Service Description

About the program: Kimberly Maize, MSW developed the Trauma Response Syndrome Model (TRSModel) to teach service users, professionals and well-being practitioners from all backgrounds a new perspective on the roots of trauma, how trauma motivates behaviors and how we attempt to get unmet needs met. The TRSModel offers insights into new ways of viewing human suffering, as well as a new way forward. This model brings together her extensive experience, research, and learnings from wisdom keepers around the world. She has used this model to counsel hundreds of clients in a non-judgmental way to understand experiences, leaving behind the stigmatizing notion of "mental illness" in favor of a more complete view of what trauma means. In this session, she offers her knowledge in a structured format so that anyone working with people impacted by trauma can begin to see their clients in a new light, offering them new ways of moving forward in their lives. The TRSModel provides the insights and tools needed to assist clients moving from symptom management to recovery. This introductory session covers *Why the TRSModel is needed given the state of mental health diagnosis and treatment today *The TRSModel theoretical framework *Intro to core TRSModel concepts (such as those relating behaviors and needs) *Info about subsequent sessions, should you decided to continue the course Four Engines Focus: Connection About the practitioner: Hi, I'm Kimberly. I'm an author, educator, speaker, and a change agent, but it wasn't always this way. I suffered for years as a service user of the mental health system, having been given over 20 different diagnoses. It was only many, many years later that my life changed when my psychiatrist said "I'm sorry. You don't have a mental illness." Rather, I was suffering from a tremendous amount of trauma. Over several years, I began to see myself and others in a new way, and soon began helping others do the same. Now, I'm moving forward to help train the next generation of professionals who will help others who may be trapped in the same situation I found myself in. I recognize the importance of informed consent, avoiding misdiagnoses, and empowerment as foundational rights. *This service is geared toward helping mental health therapists/professionals grow in their practice.
